Very nice little monsters those bookshelves are! When I compared them to another reference boookshelf speakers PMC TB2+, a real Brit with higher value, it has nothing lacking, even may have better balance in harmonics.Complex passages very well defined at any volume..but you need better sources to see how good energy you get from those beauties..one nice tweak I do recommend: use wet-like foams between the speakers and the stands and you will be amazed!!!

Strength:

Clear detailed sound

Weakness:

not 100%-compatible with electronic music

I decided to set up my first hi-fi system based on PC. I already owned a Audiotrak Maya44 professional sound board, Kenwood KAF-3030RS amplifier and was thinking about the speakers. I've read all the reviews about the ALR/JORDAN Entry 2M and decided to take the pair - yet I've heard nothing about this label ever before. I can asy I'm not disappointed at all! Entry 2M sound a lot like a studio monitor - analytically, not in a straight Hi-Fi manner. Very clear sound, but the bass is not powerful enough, the mids are somewhat oppressed; Entry 2M are ideal for acoustic bands (ie Radiohead). Electronic music, especially house, are played without sparkles.

Strength:

Smooth yet detailed. Bass extension to 45-50Hz. Musical. Not at all fatiguing.

Weakness:

Plain-jane appearance. Requires large, solid speaker stands.

I bought these largely because of the rave reviews here on AudioReview.com, and I have not been disappointed! At their original suggested list price of $600 they might be a bit overpriced, but at $199 they were a HUGE bargain. Overall, these are the best "bookshelf" speakers I've ever owned: smooth, yet detailed, with amazing bass for their compact size (13" high, 8" wide, 11.25" deep). Because they are ported in back, they need to be positioned away from the wall at least 6" and preferebly 12" or more, so it's not really accurate to call them "bookshelf" speakers; plan on buying or building a solid pair of stands. Like any speakers, the ALR/Jordan Entry 2M's have their limits. They won't play ear-bleed loud, and their sound is a bit on the "mellow" or "laid-back" side. Personally, I prefer that; if you like a lot of "presence" in a speaker, these may not be the ones for you. But if you're looking for a compact speaker with an easy-going, musical sound, these are among the very best you'll find. Highly recommended!

Strength:

Buld quality, rythm/timing, a neutral and smooth high resolution sound

When I got the Entry 2M's, I was impressed by the build quality, and the look of the aluminum mid/bass element. It sounded a bit bright the first hours, but then they started to loosen up.

The sound is on the dry side of neutral. Bass is rythmic and tight, more than seismic. Midrange sounds sweet and open with a beautiful vocal reproduction, treble is airy and detailed. This is high-resolution speakers that can bring forward the ambience and soundstage of the recordings, they sounds OK with good budget electronics but they really starts to sing with better sources.

It's an even and well balanced sound, bass - mid and treble shares the same qualities. They sound good at low to high volume levels.

Great all-rounders, I play complex dance tracks, classical, high energy pop and new age instrumentals. Sounds great! And they're a great match to the sweet sound of my Alchemist Axiom.

For their price, I can't think of any better.

Hi (again),Promised to be back with futher opinion on the Entry 2M.
Since last they have "loosened" even further, the bass is getting a really good - size taken in mind - extension downwards. And the treble - and surelly the midrange - is still detailed and excellent (by price, remember: $400 something). [A caution may be posted: If your system is harsh in the treble theese speakers do nothing to hide that.]
Also mounted them on spikes instead of cushion between them and the stands, and this did further improve things.
Right now it´s no use trying to improve these speakers further, as the rest of the system is on the "crappy" side (NAD 7020, Pioneer PD107, and Technics turntable), but the soundstage given by the trusty(?) old NAD makes musik a joy and a journey. (No, no classic music. Rather Primal Scream and Massive Attac)
A bit sorry for using the 5-star last time: Coz how does one give woice to the further improvements? Well, I assume we have to wait for someone else to make a verdict. Untill then: Don´t forget to have a look at these ($400 bargains)...

Strength:

Speed, clarity, lack of coloration, openness

Weakness:

This level of sound should have better cabinets at least as an option!

These are as good sounding as any $1000 speaker you can buy. My Soliloquy 5.0 was the reigning champ, at $1100 retail, but these are as good. They are a true bargain. The cabinets are plastic finish, however, where the Sols are real wood veneeer, at more than 2x cost. These are razor quick and detailed, but with a nicely controlled high end. Also excellent, very tight and detailed bass without boom. Add a good subwoofer and you have a contender in the $2-3 k class. The midrance has an uncolored presence that is almost spooky! Buy 'em; it's a no brainer if you like clean deatiled sound.

If you´re in for value for money, just check this speakers out. While shopping around, listening to B&W, Dali, Tannoy, AcousticEnergy and so on... I came across these. THE ones for natural sound, if that is your topic.
They did nothing but knock me out: warm yet detalied, got (for size and price) good bass, excellent resolution: a joy to listen to.
So if you´re about to shop around: Don´t miss these babies. If you are around for floorstanding, well check their older sisters.
Review: Well, I´ve mostly heard them home with NAD amplifiers (7020 and 7240), and to give you my raw opinion: these amps have never sounded so good before.
But give the speaker an even better amp, and they will bloom.
And, as they have an analytic potential, give them good stands.
I´ll be back with more. /Pär

The ALR entry 2M produces a natural and very detailled sound, without much distortion, even at high volumes, and can surely withstand a comparison with larger and more expensive loudspeakers. Excellent for classical music, jazz (you should try Miles Davis), folk and popular music, lacking however the deeper low required to reproduce synthesizer and organ. German loudspeakers are clearly catching up with British brands. Considering the price you pay for a set, it is the best buy money can offer. My judgement: I strongly recommend these loudspeakers to all audio enthusiasts who are searching for reasonably priced high-quality speakers.

Since all my audio equipment has been stolen, I have been looking for a complete new audio-set. For speakers, I was prepared to pay about 200-500$ each. In the Netherlands, most equipment is more expensive then in the States. I have been listening to a lot of speakers, but one of them were extremely good: the ALR/Jordan Entry 2m. It is really incredible what a sound these little speakers create. They are very natural in high en midrange. The sound is crystal clear. But the most suprizing was the fact that they have a really good bass. I was looking for bigger and more expensive speakers, but finally the ALR had the best sound for me. I am using them now with the Onkyo TX-SV545 which is a very good receiver for these speakers. You need to have a receiver that is good in the lower regions, but in this combination it is great ! So I can really advice this speakers !!

Strength:

Low distortion, deep bass from size, overall tight and detailed sound.

Weakness:

Sound a bit bright.

After I'd auditoned these I decided to try them at home just to be sure, but the box was heavy and I missed the train. Instead of waiting 1/2 hour sitting on a wooden bench with a big box on my lap, I set course to the nearest B&W retailer. I thougt I migth as well compare them to the similar prized 601 S2 model which I listened to some month earlier and liked alot.

There's no doubt the ALRs where the better speakers. The two (or four) sounded quiet alike tonally, but while the B&Ws had a slight more soft treble the ALRs had a more convincing sound with deeper and better bass combined with a clearer and cleaner midrange.

The B&Ws seemed to have a boomy midbass character though, which combined with the missing lows could be the result of a misstuned cabinet. Due to their deep, tight bass the ALRs is very good with drum'n'bass and twostep-garage. The bass is very "equalized" in my room: 2,5x4 meters. Voices and acoustic instruments are very organic and open. It's probably their fluid and true reproduction of voices that made me buy them.

Simply HiFi-speakers.
